Song of the Moderate Man
A deflating portrayal of a man who compromises every aspect of his life, on the basis that it's "better to be safe than sorry". In the end, his will-sapping outlook almost obliterates itself in sound, as concertina and synthesiser blot out his thoughts. Lacking any spiritual uplift, the song was not a favourite of its composer although he did attempt a remake in 1997.
"I don't often perform this. It makes me too depressed." - LR (sleevenotes to Perspectives, 1997)
