School Taught Me
This brief song was written for Inter-Action in 1972, and is a comment on the pointlessness of much of the regimentation seen in the school system. When first published as sheet music it had a defined melody (albeit to be performed "as spoken") and a chord progression, hence its inclusion here. However, it seems to have originally been designed as a poem, for use as a 'bus ticket' on the Fun Art Bus. Indeed, when Leon recorded it as the opening to That's Not The Way It's Got To Be, it was read out with no background music, making for an effective start to the LP.
"This was written as a bus ticket poem for Inter-Action's Fun Art Bus (the entrance fee to the Fun Art Bus was a piece of creative writing)." - LR (sleevenotes to the US edition of That's Not the Way It's Got To Be (LP), 1981)
