Sun
A happy song in 2/4 time, "Sun" originates with Leon's work for They Shoot Horses, Don't They? in 1973. In the play, the song belongs to Robert, who is dreaming of resting in the sun once his dance is completed. It is one of the songs which Leon returned to in the studio, capturing a version for his album, Temporary Loss of Vision in 1983, backed with synthesiser and flute.
Come 1999 he made a second version, with Liz Mansfield singing above Fiz Shapur's keyboard and Leon's daughter Ruth's flute (Leon himself is not on the recording). This version has an additional section, casting a contrasting shadow over the song, as the meadows and flowers have by now been deadened.
