Perspectives
A song about world-views, "Perspectives" penetratingly exposes the hard, inhuman march of industry and money, set against the natural feelings and desires of a kid with a football, a young lover, a singer with a song and so on - all of whose passions are crushed by the stamp of authority. The point is to contrasts two ideologies, Leon inviting the listener to make a judgement.

”The impetus for a song may come from an idea. The problem then is to translate that idea into song form by inventing a story, characters, an image that embody it, as in this song; a story – or a series of snapshot stories – with a twist in the tail.” - LR (sleevenotes to The World Turned Upside Down (CD box set), p29)
