Somebody's Stolen the End of my Dream
In its first appearance, this studio recording was placed at the end of the mainly live For the Good of the Nation, and contrasts with some of the more serious themes on side 2 to see the album off on a light note. It's really just a bit of fun from Leon and as such tells us little about his view of the world, other than that he has a mild infatuation with Jane Fonda. (Fonda, incidentally, had starred in the film version of They Shoot Horses Don't They.) It was later re-recorded for one of Leon's compilation CDs.
"In this [1997] re-recording of a song on the 1981 live LP 'For the Good of the Nation', I've loyally resisted the temptation to update Jane Fonda to Michelle Pfeiffer or Juliette Binoche." - LR (sleevenotes to Perspectives, 1997)
