Sing a Song to Please Us (3 Minute Song)
A delightfully thrown away ditty about the voices Leon can hear over his shoulder, urging him to write this or that song to satisfy what they want from him. Whether it's the folkie demanding a "fa la la" refrain, or a record exec wanting a chart hit, or a radical seeking a recipe for revolution, Leon is equally derisive, chucking about some of his funniest lines. In the end there is, as there should be, just Leon and his guitar.
“I like rhymes. I had a lot of fun with the rhyming in this jokey dig at the sort of songs that some audiences want to hear and I don’t want to write.” - LR (sleevenotes to The World Turned Upside Down (CD box set), p52)
