I Remember The Times
A commentary on social decay, crystallised through the eyes of two strangers who meet at a train station and strike up a conversation. Musing the state of the local town, which is in chronic decline, the gloom is juxtaposed with childhood memories of playing outdoors, enjoying life, and, crucially, still having a future to look forward to.
Back in the present, society seems to consist solely of cuts, unemployment and poverty - caused by 'Tory ghouls' from Thatcher to Osborne. (But not everyone has suffered this fate, of course - 'They've got superyachts, they've got private jets...' while 'We've got foodbanks, we've got life-long debts'.) Ultimately a tale of us-and-them, the song spotlights the soul-destroying effects of an economic agenda in which communities and people are neglected by a government concerned only in furthering the interests of the powerful.
The song was first made available in 2019 (presumably when it was written), via a YouTube upload. To date, it is unavailable on disc.
