Debut album of Leon’s
second group, The Three City Four. The set was recorded at London’s
Lansdowne Studios, with Gerry Bron producing, and was released by the major
Decca label. The group line-up consists of Leon, Martin Carthy, Marian McKenzie
and Ralph Trainer, all of whom sing, with Leon and Martin Carthy playing
guitar.
Most of the songs are cover versions, but Leon is represented with five solo compositions plus a few new lines which he added to the Pete Seeger track, “Oh Had I A Golden Thread”. Two of Leon’s songs are not new; “Down the Drain” had appeared on his debut EP in 1962, while “Across The Hills” had already been recorded by the Ian Campbell Folk Group.
