Produced by David Platz and Fred Hellerman, this was the second and last LP by The Three City Four, released on CBS. The group’s original lineup has altered, with Martin Carthy having left the act, making room for Roy Bailey to join – although Carthy is still present on virtually the whole LP. (Bassist Joe Mudel also appears, without credit.)
Leon contributes three self-composed tracks, and also provides the music to four more, whose lyrics were written by others. Of the three solo compositions, “Do You Remember?” and “Tim McGuire” were reworkings from Songs For Sceptical Circles.

"A few of these songs use the idiom of traditional folk songs. Others are more jazz and blues than folk. Half of them were originally poems. What they all share is a serious (humorous) concern for the quality of contemporary life in general and city life in particular... these songs are not pretty or sweet. They are, I think, relevant." - LR (sleevenotes)
