I Dreamed I Was Walking Alone
[ALSO KNOWN AS "I DREAMED I WAS..."]
Copyrighted in 1966, and in circulation as sheet music before it was formally recorded, "I Dreamed I Was Walking Alone" provides from its lyric the title to The Three City Four's second album. The text mixes in elements of other songs, especially "Tim Maguire" and "Once When I Was Young", and concerns the ugly, alienating effects of living in a concrete jungle. The only version released on disc is by The Three City Four.
"Draws together the themes of the record, the heartlessness and ugliness of much of modern city life, the invisible presence of the manipulators, the rule makers, the faceless, indefinable, non-existent 'they', the impossible dream of change." - LR (sleevenotes to Smoke & Dust Where the Heart Should Have Been, 1967)
